A Riverside Avenue Renovation: Where Family Living Meets Refined Design

When a young family reached out about renovating their new home on Riverside Avenue in Greenwich, I knew this project would be special. They had purchased a beautiful home with great bones, it just needed to feel like theirs. The goal was to bring in a sense of quiet sophistication while keeping it livable and family-friendly.

From the start, the process was built on collaboration. We partnered with DeRosa Builders, whose craftsmanship and commitment to quality align perfectly with ours. Everyone including the client, builder, and design team communicated openly and shared the same goal: to create a home that balances sophistication with warmth. When that kind of trust is in place, it shows in every detail. Ideas evolve naturally, challenges are solved early, and the finished result feels seamless.

Much of the home’s transformation came through refinement rather than reinvention. We removed heavy wallpapers, ornate moldings, and some of the more traditional detailing to reveal a cleaner, more timeless backdrop. New stone fireplaces, updated stair railings with sleek black balusters, and simple architectural trimwork brought subtle modernity while honoring the home’s original character.

The kitchen, for example, didn’t need a complete gut — just a thoughtful refresh. We kept the existing layout, which worked well, and focused on the pieces that would make the biggest impact: a new natural oak island, custom hood, and open oak shelving that instantly made the space feel brand new. It’s now a room that feels light, functional, and designed for real life without the cost or disruption of a full renovation.

Throughout the house, refinished oak floors warm the space and tie the rooms together. Soft neutrals, natural textures, and layered finishes create that quiet, elevated feel I love. And then there’s the powder room! Bold and unexpected in ink black with brass hardware and a pop of orange accessories. It’s a small room that makes a statement, and one of my favorite design moments in the house.

In the end, this renovation reflects what I value most about design; partnership, thoughtful edits, and making choices that truly serve how a family lives.

At Clarity, we believe great design doesn’t always mean starting over. Sometimes, it’s about recognizing what’s already good and bringing clarity, craftsmanship, and a fresh perspective to make it shine.
