Classic Greenwich Revival: A Fresh Chapter in a Storied Home

This residence in the historic Khakum Woods enclave of Greenwich, CT had everything our clients were looking for, traditional architecture, graceful proportions, and the kind of timeless character that draws you in immediately. As empty nesters beginning a new chapter, they fell in love with the home’s classic bones, but knew it needed updating to match how they wanted to live now and welcome family for years to come.

Their vision wasn’t about reinventing the house. It was about breathing new life into it while honoring its history. Working alongside Schettino Architects and SAL Development, we set out to create a home that balanced preservation with modern livability.
Creating Space for Family
The project started with a clear goal of adding bedrooms for their adult sons and their future families. As we developed the plans, we saw an opportunity to do more. This home could become a true gathering place, designed for the joy of multigenerational homecomings.
Then, everything changed with one simple request.
Two Feet Transformed Everything
A modest kitchen expansion of two feet became the catalyst for completely reimagining the heart of the home.

The original narrow galley kitchen made way for a spacious, light-filled culinary hub featuring:
- A generously sized island for gathering
- Dedicated coffee bar and full bar for entertaining
- Appliance garage for clutter-free counters
- Custom-designed statement hood
- Vaulted ceiling rising to 14 feet at their highest point
By opening the unused attic space, we transformed an 8-foot ceiling into a dramatic 14-foot peak. The result feels both architecturally striking and warmly inviting.
Elevating Everyday Spaces
Great design shows up in the details of daily life.
The new laundry room proves utility spaces can be beautiful. Bright, functional, and thoughtfully designed, it’s actually a pleasant place to spend time.

The breakfast room became a jewel box wrapped in color, pattern, and texture. Our clients use it for morning coffee, family meals, and quiet work sessions throughout the day.
Two en-suite bathrooms received complete redesigns featuring warm off-white and beige tile, oak millwork, carefully curated lighting and fixtures, and natural stones chosen for their calming effect.

An Addition That Feels Original
The best additions look like they’ve always been there. Our new wing seamlessly extends the home with:
- Two en-suite bedrooms
- Private office space
- Gracious stair tower
- Mudroom with custom lockers
- Dedicated space for the family dog
Every proportion and material were selected with intention to ensure the addition feels authentic to the home’s original architecture.

The Power of Purposeful Color
Color became a defining element throughout this Greenwich home renovation. We used it deliberately to bring personality, warmth, and joy to each space. The palette reflects our clients’ personal style while maintaining sophisticated restraint. Bold without being overwhelming, expressive without feeling trendy.

Honoring Heritage, Embracing Modern Living
This renovation balanced two essential goals. First, preserving the home’s architectural legacy while creating spaces that support how families live today.
Second, the finished home is elegant yet approachable. Classic yet completely current. It celebrates our clients’ past while welcoming their future.
Most importantly, it feels authentically theirs. And that’s what great design is all about.
We welcome working with you to make your home everything you dream. Let’s start the conversation.
